at Clayesmore School on 23 June
Planner's Notes:
Rather than disqualifying teams who mispunched, we have given a penalty time of 10 minutes per missed control and added this time to a team's finish time.
It was unfortunate that the contractors started installing the new power cable after the courses were planned and the maps went to the printers. Extensions to these trenches continued up to the Saturday morning before the event. There was no time to remap/replan the senior courses. Our only available course of action was to display a map showing the works at Registration and ask all competitors not to cross the orange barriers.
During the event, one or two teams were seen by other competitors to be crossing the barriers, particularly those at the E corner of the Clayesmore Main House (also marked on the Orange map as a forbidden route): the split times are interesting. An uncrossable barrier is to be regarded as uncrossable even if the gale has blown it over. I hope that we don't lose the school's permission to use the area again as a result.

Andrew French, Chairman of Wimborne Orienteers, congratulated Barbara Warren on her BEM awarded in the Queen's Birthday Honours. The Junior trophy was then presented to Devon Young Ones and the Senior trophy to Wessex Raiders.
Wimborne teams were runners-up in both sections. WIM Branford - Chris, Lynn, Kirsty, Debs & Richard - were 2nd in the Seniors, and Sarah, Elizabeth & Darren were 2nd in the Juniors. Well done!
